Tragic Challenger 300 Crash in Argentina Results in Two Fatalities
A Bombardier Challenger 300 business jet met with a fatal accident at San Fernando Airport, near Buenos Aires, Argentina, on December 18, 2024. The crash claimed the lives of both pilots on board. The aircraft, registered as LV-GOK, was en route from Punta del Este, Uruguay. It overran runway 05 post-landing and crashed into residential buildings located beyond the airport perimeter.
As per preliminary reports, the aircraft failed to brake after touchdown. This led to the aircraft veering off the runway, crashing through a perimeter fence, and colliding with houses before erupting into flames. The victims were identified as pilot Martín Fernández Loza (44) and co-pilot Agustín Orforte (35). The aircraft was reportedly owned by the Brito family, proprietors of Argentina’s largest bank, Banco Macro.
Argentina’s Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the incident. Early reports hint at a possible brake failure. Emergency responders were successful in evacuating nearby houses, and thankfully, no casualties were reported on the ground. The Challenger 300 is considered one of the most reliable business jets in its class, with over 800 aircraft delivered since its introduction in 2004.
