Meta’s Ray-Ban Smart Glasses Enhanced with Live AI and Real-Time Translation

Meta has unveiled a significant upgrade to its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, infusing them with Live AI capabilities and real-time language translation. This transformation morphs the wearable device into a potent AI ally.

The firmware v11 update, currently accessible to early access program members in the US and Canada, empowers users to engage in continuous dialogues with Meta AI, eliminating the need to repeatedly utter “Hey Meta.” The Live AI feature equips the glasses with the ability to process real-time video, enabling users to inquire about their surroundings.

With the new live translation feature, users can experience real-time speech translation between English and Spanish, French, or Italian. Translations can be heard through the glasses’ open-ear speakers or viewed as transcripts on their paired smartphones, facilitating seamless and hands-free international communication.

Furthermore, the update incorporates Shazam functionality, allowing users to identify songs by simply saying “Hey Meta, what is this song?” The glasses can now also scan QR codes and phone numbers, with results appearing instantly on the user’s smartphone.

However, Meta cautions that Live AI will significantly drain the battery, providing approximately 30-60 minutes of continuous use. Since its launch, the company has sold over 2 million Ray-Ban Meta units, with plans to scale production to 10 million units by 2026.
