Qantas Introduces Groundbreaking A321XLR Aircraft on Brisbane Routes

Qantas Airways has unveiled its state-of-the-art Airbus A321XLR aircraft on Brisbane routes, commencing November 17, 2024. This marks a significant advancement in the airline’s fleet renewal program. The national carrier now holds the distinction of being the fourth airline globally, and the first in the Asia-Pacific region, to operate this cutting-edge aircraft.

The A321XLR boasts a wider and longer cabin compared to previous narrowbody aircraft, providing 60% more baggage space than Boeing 737s. It also features higher ceilings, larger windows, and offers fast, free Wi-Fi. The aircraft accommodates 197 passengers with 20 business class and 177 economy seats. This represents a 13% increase in total capacity without compromising on legroom.

Offering daily return services between Brisbane and Sydney, the A321XLR is more fuel-efficient per seat than the aircraft it replaces. This contributes to Qantas’ sustainability goals. The aircraft has the capacity to fly approximately 8,700km – around 3,000km further than the 737-800. This opens up opportunities for new direct domestic and international routes to Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

As part of its largest-ever fleet renewal program, Qantas has 48 A321XLRs on order, with over 200 aircraft on firm order. The aircraft are named after iconic Australian walks, rivers, and roads. The Brisbane service is operated by the aircraft named ‘Outback Way.’
