Pittsburgh International Airport Unveils $1.7B Terminal After 4-Year Construction
Pittsburgh International Airport proudly unveiled its state-of-the-art $1.7 billion terminal on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. This marks a significant milestone in the airport’s transformation journey. The new facility replaces the outdated terminal system, putting an end to the need for the infamous underground tram that previously connected passengers from the landside to airside terminals.
The new terminal is a marvel of modern design and efficiency, boasting features such as:
- 12 TSA security lanes (up from seven),
- An advanced baggage handling system that reduces luggage travel distance from eight miles to a mere three miles,
- Over 6,000 new parking spaces.
Post-security, passengers now only need to traverse a mere 140 feet across a pedestrian bridge, making the journey significantly faster and more efficient.
Other key enhancements include:
- Outdoor terraces,
- A “Welcome Point” for greeting arriving passengers,
- Enhanced wayfinding systems.
Airport officials anticipate approximately 25,000 passengers to utilize the facility on its opening day. The project, which took over a decade of planning and four years of construction, is now complete.
