International Travel in the U.S. Soars by 11% as Tourism Returns to Normal
The United States witnessed a remarkable surge in international travel volumes in November 2024. Total arrivals of non-U.S. resident visitors reached 5.65 million, marking a 7.2% increase compared to November 2023. According to the National Travel and Tourism Office data, the country has regained 93% of its pre-COVID visitor volume levels from November 2019.
Outbound travel by U.S. citizens exhibited an even more robust performance. There were 8.19 million departures in November 2024, a striking 11% increase from the previous year. This figure surpasses the pre-pandemic November 2019 levels by 112.9%.
- Mexico topped the list of international visitor arrivals with 1.65 million visitors.
- Canada followed closely with 1.44 million visitors.
The data underscores the ongoing normalization of travel patterns. Europe emerged as the second-largest market for outbound U.S. visitors with 1.31 million departures, accounting for 16% of all November departures. This robust performance is a testament to the resilience of the travel sector and the escalating consumer confidence in international travel.
