Amazon Revolutionizes Healthcare with AI-Powered Prescription Vending Machines

Amazon is taking a giant leap in healthcare access with the introduction of prescription vending machines at its One Medical clinics. This innovative approach allows patients to collect their medications within minutes of their doctor visits, enhancing convenience and efficiency.

Beginning in December 2025, these Amazon Pharmacy Kiosks will be operational at One Medical locations across the greater Los Angeles area. The locations include:

  • Downtown LA
  • West LA
  • Beverly Hills
  • Long Beach
  • West Hollywood

Plans for expansion to additional locations are already in the pipeline.

The automated machines are equipped with hundreds of commonly prescribed medications. The inventory includes antibiotics, inhalers, and blood pressure treatments, and is customized based on local prescribing patterns. Patients can place orders through the Amazon app, make payments upfront, and scan a QR code to retrieve their medication after an Amazon pharmacist completes the final verification.

This innovation is a response to a critical healthcare gap. Nearly one-third of prescriptions in the US are never filled, often due to the inconvenience of making separate trips to the pharmacy. The timing of this launch is significant, especially as major pharmacy chains are struggling, with Rite Aid closing all remaining stores and CVS shuttering over 1,000 locations since 2021.
