American suncare just entered a new era. La Roche-Posay, the L’Oréal-owned dermatological beauty brand, has officially launched its Anthelios UV Defense SPF 50 Sunscreen in the United States — the brand’s first product to feature Bemotrizinol (BEMT), the first new UV filter approved by the FDA in over 25 years.

The product hit shelves and went live on LaRochePosay.us and Amazon.com on October 20, 2026, priced at $39.99. BEMT, long used in European and Asian sunscreens, offers broad-spectrum UVA/UVB coverage up to 370nm. Unlike older chemical filters, it is photostable — meaning it does not break down in sunlight — and has low skin absorption, making it especially suited for sensitive or acne-prone skin.

The formula also features La Roche-Posay’s amplified Cell-Ox Shield complex, including litchi extract and pollution-defense ingredients, promising 16-hour antioxidant protection. The FDA approved BEMT in concentrations up to 6% this past summer, with the La Roche-Posay product containing 2%. The sunscreen has been dermatologist tested and leaves no white cast, offering a natural, dewy finish.

Competing brands including Neutrogena and Ultra Violette are also rolling out BEMT-powered formulas, signaling a long-awaited revolution in US sun protection.
