Iceland has cemented its status as one of the world’s most accessible and sought-after travel destinations, with visa-free entry now available to citizens of 93 countries and territories as of October 2026. The eligible nations include major markets such as Canada, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, and dozens more, opening the door for a significant new wave of international visitors.
The expansion of visa-free access is already showing results, with Iceland’s tourism sector experiencing notable growth in visitor numbers and international connectivity. Travellers from eligible countries can now arrive and explore Iceland’s world-famous attractions — including glaciers, volcanic landscapes, geothermal hot springs, dramatic waterfalls, and the spectacular Northern Lights — without the added complexity of a visa application.
Top airlines are capitalising on the momentum. British Airways has even scheduled a special Avios-only service to Reykjavík for the October 2026 half-term holiday period, with an outbound flight on October 25 and a return on November 1. Keflavík International Airport serves as Iceland’s primary international gateway, with connections from London Heathrow, North America, and beyond.
Industry observers note that easier travel access, combined with Iceland’s extraordinary natural scenery and growing luxury tourism infrastructure, is rapidly elevating the country’s profile on the global travel map heading into the 2026–27 winter season.
