Luxury Travel 2027: A New Era of Intentional, Wellness-Driven Journeys
The global luxury travel sector is entering a new era in 2027 — one defined not by excess, but by intention. According to a major new report published by Euronews Travel and supported by Virtuoso’s 2027 Luxe Report, which surveyed more than 3,100 travel advisors across 50+ countries, affluent travellers are moving away from lavish displays of opulence toward deeply personal, wellness-driven experiences.
Europe is set to dominate the luxury travel map, claiming seven of the top 10 global destinations. Japan leads overall, followed by Italy, France, Greece, and Spain. Croatia, South Africa, Portugal, the UK, and the US round out the top 10. Greece also tops the luxury honeymoon charts, with couples increasingly looking beyond Mykonos and Santorini to emerging gems like Paros, Milos, and Crete.
Key trends reshaping high-end travel include a boom in slow luxury — longer, more immersive rail journeys and privately curated itineraries — alongside a skyrocketing demand for wellness retreats that go beyond spa treatments to include metabolic testing, sleep analysis, and personalized nutrition. Virtuoso also recorded a 47% increase in so-called “ultraluxe travel,” covering exclusive-use properties and private high-end experiences. Importantly, 59% of travel advisors predict their clients’ spending will increase modestly in 2027, signaling a resilient and growing appetite for meaningful, high-quality travel.
