Google Introduces Universal Cart for Unified Shopping Experience Across Search & Gemini in the US

Google has officially launched its Universal Cart in the United States, marking a significant transformation in the American online shopping landscape. This new feature, available across Google Search (including AI Mode) and the Gemini app, allows shoppers to consolidate products from various retailers into a single, smart cart. This eliminates the need for switching between different store websites.

The Universal Cart is driven by Google’s innovative open standard, the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). This protocol facilitates seamless coordination of transactions between AI agents and retailers. Shoppers can now save items from different stores, receive real-time notifications about price drops and restocks, view promotional codes and card perks via Google Wallet, and then proceed to checkout either through Google Pay or by transferring the cart directly to the retailer’s own site.

Major retailers such as Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Wayfair, and select Shopify merchants are among the launch partners. All are supported by Google’s robust Shopping Graph product listings, which are refreshed continually with over 60 billion items. The Universal Cart feature was launched just in time for the holiday shopping season. However, the international expansion to Canada and Australia has been postponed to 2027.
