AmaWaterways Unveils Inaugural Peru & Machu Picchu Land Extension
River cruise pioneer, AmaWaterways, has unveiled its maiden voyage to Peru, launching a six-day Machu Picchu land extension. This extension is an add-on to the well-loved Magic of Colombia river cruise itinerary. The announcement, made on October 13, 2026, signifies a daring expansion of the company’s luxury travel offerings beyond South America’s rivers.
The adventure begins once guests disembark in Cartagena, Colombia, and take a flight to Lima, Peru—with the inter-country airfare included in the package. In Lima, travelers will delve into the lively neighborhoods of Miraflores and Barranco, guided by a local expert, before proceeding to Cusco and the Sacred Valley. The journey reaches its peak with a private tour of Machu Picchu, accessible via the first-class Inca Rail or the legendary Hiram Bingham, A Belmond Train.
AmaWaterways provides two unique hotel tiers: a “Boutique” option featuring The Luxury Collection hotels, and an “Iconic” Belmond experience. Other highlights include the Maras salt pans, Moray’s agricultural terraces, and the ancient Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman.
“Machu Picchu is one of the most iconic places to visit on earth,” stated Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways. “It’s thrilling to add this meticulously curated experience to our offerings, reflecting AmaWaterways’ evolution in luxury river cruising.”
The package will make its debut on select April 2027 sailings and will be available on all Magic of Colombia post-cruise departures from 2028 onwards.
