Amazon Nearing Acquisition of AI Startup Decart in a $7 Billion Deal
Amazon is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire Decart, a fast-growing artificial intelligence startup, in a deal valued at approximately $7 billion, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal published Sunday, October 11.
Founded in 2023 by three Israeli engineers and headquartered in San Francisco, Decart has developed software that enables AI models to run seamlessly across different chip architectures. This capability is of growing importance as companies scramble to expand beyond Nvidia’s dominant GPU ecosystem. The acquisition would provide Amazon with a significant software advantage for its own custom Trainium AI chips, potentially making AWS a more competitive alternative to Nvidia-based infrastructure.
Decart is also developing two notable AI models: Lucy, a real-time video and world model designed for applications such as virtual product try-ons, and Oasis, a model that generates simulated 3D environments for training robotics and autonomous-driving systems. The startup, which has raised over $450 million from investors including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, Radical Ventures, and Nvidia, was valued at $4 billion as recently as May 2026. Notably, Anthropic had previously explored a $6 billion acquisition of Decart but walked away after due diligence in September.
