Frasers Group Takes Ownership of Prestigious Luxury Retailer Harvey Nichols
One of Britain’s most esteemed luxury retail names, Harvey Nichols, has been acquired by a new owner. The retail empire, Frasers Group, led by billionaire Mike Ashley, successfully completed the acquisition in August 2026, rescuing the 193-year-old luxury department store chain from administration. This transaction, orchestrated by FTI Consulting, has caused a stir in the luxury beauty and fashion retail industry.
The acquisition grants Frasers Group control over Harvey Nichols’ six UK stores including the recently refurbished Knightsbridge flagship in London, and branches in Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, and Edinburgh. Additionally, the deal encompasses the online business, existing inventory, and over 1,000 employees. International franchise agreements, which cover stores in Hong Kong, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, are also part of the deal and will continue to operate under existing licensing arrangements.
Harvey Nichols, a purveyor of designer fashion, premium beauty products, fine wines, and luxury foods, encountered financial difficulties earlier in 2026. The acquisition raises critical questions about the future of the store’s renowned beauty halls, which stock top-tier brands across skincare, cosmetics, and fragrance. Frasers has indicated that difficult decisions are on the horizon, with analysts suggesting the Knightsbridge and Edinburgh locations are most likely to remain as true luxury destinations.
The Financial Times estimated the transaction to be approximately £40 million (~$54 million USD).
