Revolutionary Sunscreen with FDA-Approved Filter Now Available in the US
Sunscreen innovation in the United States has made a significant advancement after nearly three decades. The Australian skincare brand Ultra Violette has launched Unblock Screen™ SPF 50 Breakout-Friendly SKINSCREEN™. This is the first sunscreen in the US to incorporate Bemotrizinol (BEMT), a broad-spectrum UV filter approved by the FDA in June 2026. It’s also the first new sunscreen ingredient approved by the agency in over 25 years.
Designed specifically for oily, acne-prone, and reactive skin types, the SPF 50 formula combines BEMT with Bix’Activ (a sebum-regulating ingredient), hydrating Pentavitin, and zinc. The result is a lightweight, whipped texture that leaves no white residue. BEMT offers superior broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection, remains highly photostable, and is effective at lower concentrations than older chemical filters. This is a significant breakthrough for individuals with sensitive and reactive skin.
The co-founder of Ultra Violette, Bec Jefferd, considers this a proud milestone for the brand, which entered the US market via Sephora in 2025. Unblock Screen™ SPF 50 is now available at ultraviolettespf.com and Sephora.com. Nationwide in-store availability at Sephora will begin on October 2, 2026, with a retail price of $40. A second BEMT-powered formula, Fave Screen™ SPF 50, is scheduled for release in January 2027.
