Tesla Unveils Futuristic Cybercab Robotaxi in Austin: A Vehicle Without a Wheel or Pedals
Tesla has officially launched its highly anticipated Cybercab robotaxi in Austin, Texas. This futuristic two-seater is unlike any vehicle on the road, arriving with no steering wheel and no pedals. It relies entirely on Tesla’s AI4 computer and Full Self-Driving software to navigate every mile autonomously.
Prior to the September 3 launch event, Tesla’s social media accounts teased fans with the now-viral phrase “no steering wheel, no pedals,” while CEO Elon Musk pinned a post declaring “A storm of Cybercabs.” The company also offered free rides in limited areas of Austin to selected invitees, with dozens of the gold-painted, butterfly-door vehicles spotted circulating across the city’s streets.
The Cybercab seats two passengers and is powered by Tesla’s current AI4 hardware platform. The next-generation AI4.5 and AI5 chips are already on the roadmap. According to state records, 420 autonomous vehicles were registered in Texas at the time of the launch. Tesla’s stock surged 5.4% on the day of the announcement, as bullish investors bet the company is poised to challenge Waymo’s early lead in the robotaxi market. The launch event was invitation-only, and broader public access remains subject to regulatory approval.
