American Airlines Raises Admirals Club Lounge Membership Fees by Up to 75%

Frequent flyers are feeling the pinch as American Airlines has recently rolled out a significant revamp of its Admirals Club lounge membership program. The changes, which took effect on August 23, 2026, include a hike in the annual standard membership fee from $850 to a whopping $1,400 for general members. This increase of up to 75% marks one of the most contentious airline pricing moves in recent times.

The airline has introduced a new two-tier structure. Travelers now have the choice between the standard full membership at $1,400 per year, which grants access for up to two guests and entry to over 60 partner lounges worldwide, or a new ‘single membership’ at a flat rate of $750, which is exclusive to the member and does not include access to partner lounges. It’s worth noting that household memberships have been completely phased out, and the previous $50 renewal discount is no longer available.

The new pricing strategy presents a clear commercial incentive for loyal passengers. The airline’s Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®, now priced at $695 annually, continues to offer a full Admirals Club membership, including guest privileges. This makes it a much more cost-effective alternative to a standalone membership. Analysts believe that American’s main objective is to channel more customers into its credit card ecosystem, rather than merely generating revenue from memberships. Elite AAdvantage members can avail modest discounts, with Executive Platinum members paying $1,200 for a standard membership. Existing members have the option to renew at the older rates until October 3, 2026.
