Frasers Group Acquires Renowned Harvey Nichols Beauty Empire
In a significant upheaval in the UK’s luxury retail landscape this year, Frasers Group, under the ownership of billionaire Mike Ashley, has officially taken over Harvey Nichols. This iconic British luxury department store chain was acquired in a pre-pack administration deal, estimated to be worth around £40 million (~$54 million USD).
The deal, which was confirmed on 13 August 2026, brings six UK stores under the umbrella of Frasers Group. This includes the recently refurbished, iconic Knightsbridge flagship store in London, as well as stores in Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, and Edinburgh. The acquisition also encompasses Harvey Nichols’ online business, its current inventory, international franchise agreements, and a workforce of over 1,000 employees.
Established in 1831, Harvey Nichols boasts a portfolio of over 800 premium and luxury brands. It has been a leading destination for high-end beauty, fashion, and fragrance products. Prior to entering administration due to sustained trading pressures, the chain was held for 35 years by Hong Kong billionaire Dickson Poon.
Frasers Group outbid its competitor, Next Plc, in the auction process. Harvey Nichols CEO Julia Goddard described the deal as “an important milestone” and pledged to maintain the brand’s status as a “distinct and relevant luxury destination.” Industry insiders predict substantial restructuring, with the possibility of some regional stores transitioning to other Frasers formats such as Flannels. However, the Knightsbridge flagship is expected to retain the Harvey Nichols brand.
