Roblox’s ‘Build’ Launches: AI-Powered Mobile Game Creation Now Possible
Roblox has officially launched the public alpha of its groundbreaking AI-powered game creation tool, Build, today — July 28, 2026. This marks a historic first for the platform: mobile-native game development without the need for a PC or Mac.
The rollout begins in New Zealand, available to age-verified users aged 9 and older. Users simply type a text description — such as “a thrilling racing game in fantastical cities” — and Build’s AI automatically generates a fully playable starting point. This includes gameplay mechanics, environments, characters, sounds, and visual styling.
Creators can then playtest the result, request further changes through an AI chat interface, and seamlessly continue development in the full desktop Roblox Studio if desired. This is possible as both tools share the same back end and chat history.
Users aged 16 and older will be able to publish their creations to a global audience, provided their games pass Roblox’s safety review process. A free base version of Build is available to all creators, alongside paid tiers for power users. Roblox has confirmed it will expand the feature to additional regions in the coming months.
The launch is part of Roblox’s broader AI push, which also includes AI agents for playtesting and analytics, an AI foundation model for 3D asset generation, and an AI developer assistant. All of these are aimed at lowering the barrier for aspiring game creators worldwide.
