Tecnam Introduces ‘Rivale’: A Revolutionary Leap in Personal Aviation

At the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026, Italian aircraft manufacturer Tecnam made a grand entrance, presenting the initial design elements and the name of its eagerly awaited new aircraft program — the Tecnam Rivale. Instead of a traditional mock-up or computer rendering, Tecnam opted for a theatrical reveal featuring a stunning 3,000-pound (≈1,360 kg) stainless steel sculpture. This masterpiece, meticulously shaped, welded, and polished over several months, exhibits the Rivale’s robust sculpted nose and initial defining design lines.

The name ‘Rivale’, Italian for “rival”, signifies Tecnam’s audacious aspirations for the high-performance piston market. The confirmed technical highlights include the Continental CD-300 engine, a 300 hp V-6 turbodiesel with FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control), capable of operating on Jet A and sustainable aviation fuel. The aircraft also features a specially adapted MT-Propeller and the brand-new Garmin G2000 Prime avionics suite, introducing turbine-class touch-screen displays to the piston market for the first time.

Giovanni Pascale Langer, Tecnam’s Managing Director, stated that the Rivale aims to blend speed and utility with Italian luxury craftsmanship and a premium ownership experience. The complete aircraft and full technical specifications are set to be unveiled at Aero Friedrichshafen 2027. This announcement signifies a landmark moment for Tecnam, which is celebrating 75 years of aircraft manufacturing with a global fleet of over 8,200 aircraft in more than 65 countries.
