Unveiling the Pipistrel Voyager: A MOSAIC-Ready Flight Trainer at Oshkosh
At the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026, one of the most significant reveals was by Pipistrel, a Textron Inc. company. They introduced the all-new Pipistrel Voyager, a two-seat training aircraft specifically built for flight schools. The Voyager is designed to comply with the FAA’s groundbreaking Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) regulations, set to take full effect on July 24, 2026.
The Voyager is equipped with state-of-the-art features. These include day-and-night IFR capability, intentional spin certification, a three-axis autopilot, a single-lever throttle, and an integrated ballistic parachute system. The aircraft is powered by a Rotax 912 ULS engine. It boasts a maximum range of 740 nautical miles (including IFR reserves), a maximum takeoff weight of 1,389 lbs, and a useful load of 552 lbs. The cockpit is fitted with the brand-new Garmin Axis avionics suite that features a touchscreen display.
With a price tag of €240,000 (~$275,000) — approximately half the cost of a new Cessna 172 Skyhawk — Textron Aviation’s VP of Piston Sales, Chris Crow, pointed out that flight schools could essentially purchase two Voyagers for the price of one Skyhawk. Epic Flight Academy has signed on as the launch customer with an agreement to purchase up to 50 aircraft, with the first deliveries set to begin in 2027.
