Sports Illustrated Resorts Embarks on $150M Resort Development in Alabama
Travel + Leisure Co. (NYSE: TNL) has commenced construction on a daring new venture — a $150 million Sports Illustrated Resorts destination in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. This marks the brand’s inaugural ground-up development in a collegiate market. Nestled along Rice Mine Road near the Black Warrior River, the resort is conveniently located just a mile from the University of Alabama campus, making it a year-round hotspot for Crimson Tide fans and sports enthusiasts.
The project, spearheaded by general contractor Doster Construction, will boast two six-story towers. The first will house 75 whole-ownership condominiums, while the second will provide 86 vacation ownership units. The resort will offer a variety of amenities, including:
- Indoor and outdoor bars
- A game lounge
- A state-of-the-art fitness center
- A rooftop event space with stadium-style seating for watch parties
- A coffee bar
- Retail outlets
Slated to open its doors in 2028, the resort is set to generate hundreds of construction and long-term jobs for the local community.
“Tuscaloosa, with one of the most iconic programs in college sports and a fan base that epitomizes game day culture, is a natural fit for Sports Illustrated Resorts,” stated Geoff Richards, Chief Operating Officer at Travel + Leisure Co. Sports Illustrated Resorts operates under the umbrella of Travel + Leisure Co., with a license from Authentic Brands Group.
