Major Airports Hit by 169 Flight Cancellations: U.S. Summer Travel Takes a Hit

Today, June 23, 2026, North America is witnessing a summer travel chaos. A staggering 169 flights have been cancelled and an additional 680 delayed within, into, or out of the United States. This widespread aviation disruption is impacting some of the country’s busiest gateways, including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, John F. Kennedy International (JFK), Boston Logan, Newark Liberty, and Orlando International Airport. Canada’s Toronto Pearson International Airport, a significant transborder hub, is also affected.

The airlines caught in the midst of these disruptions include Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, American Airlines, JetBlue, Air Canada, Southwest, Frontier, Republic, and Endeavor Air. JFK alone has seen 15 flights cancelled and 42 delayed. JetBlue recorded the highest delay total of 14 flights at this airport. The ripple effect of this turbulence is extending far beyond U.S. borders, leading to missed connections across Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Analysts are warning that even a small number of cancellations at popular tourist destinations like Orlando, New York, and Boston can cause a domino effect. This can lead to delayed hotel check-ins, reduced spending at restaurants and attractions, and forced itinerary shortening for visitors. With airlines operating at near peak summer capacity, travelers are advised to frequently check their flight status and arrive at airports with extra time to spare.
