Meta Unveils AI Supervision Features for Teen Accounts
Meta has unveiled a new set of parental supervision features. These tools allow parents to oversee the topics their teenagers engage with Meta AI across Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, as announced by the company on April 23, 2026.
The latest update introduces an “Insights” tab within Meta’s Family Center. This tab provides parents with a weekly overview of broad topic categories their teens have interacted with through AI assistants. The categories include:
- School
- Entertainment
- Lifestyle
- Travel
- Writing
- Health and wellbeing
Notably, parents will see topic-level summaries rather than actual conversation transcripts. This approach balances safety concerns with teen privacy.
The feature is currently available in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Brazil. Global expansion is planned in the coming weeks. Parents can delve into subcategories within each theme. For instance, lifestyle may encompass fashion or food, while health could cover fitness or mental wellbeing.
This development comes as Meta faces increased scrutiny over child safety on its platforms. The company previously limited teen access to AI characters following reports of inappropriate interactions. In response, Meta has established an AI Wellbeing Expert Council. They have also partnered with the Cyberbullying Research Center to develop conversation starters for parents discussing AI chatbot usage with their children.
