Cessna Citation CJ1 Crash at PA Airport: Miraculous Survival Despite Fiery Aftermath

A dramatic takeoff accident at Bedford County Airport (KHMZ) in Bedford, Pennsylvania, resulted in a business jet being completely destroyed. However, in a miraculous turn of events, both occupants walked away with only minor injuries. The incident occurred on October 7, 2026, at approximately 10:45 a.m. local time, involving a 2000 Cessna Citation CJ1 (registration N600AL, owned by Shobers Equipment LLC).

The jet was bound for Martin State Airport in the Baltimore, Maryland area. Immediately after lifting off from Runway 14, it crashed, burst through the airport’s perimeter fence, crossed a road, and finally came to rest in a field. A post-crash fire consumed the aircraft.

Emergency crews from Bedford, Everett, and Alum Bank, along with Bedford Ambulance, responded rapidly to the scene. Despite the aircraft being completely destroyed, both people on board suffered only minor injuries and survived the accident.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have initiated formal investigations into the cause of the crash. Flight records reveal that the aircraft had made the same Bedford-to-Baltimore route multiple times in recent weeks. The cause of the crash has not yet been officially released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
