Amazon Discontinues Fire Tablets, Introduces Premium Alexa Tablet Range Starting at $230
After a decade of producing budget-friendly devices, Amazon has officially discontinued its popular Fire tablet series. In its place, Amazon has introduced a new range of high-end Alexa-branded tablets. These devices run on full Android and provide access to the Google Play Store, marking a significant shift in strategy for the e-commerce titan.
The new lineup was announced on October 8, 2026, and includes three consumer models: the Alexa Tablet 8, Alexa Tablet 11, and the high-end Alexa Tablet 12 Pro. Prices range from $229.99 to $549.99. This is a notable increase from the previous entry-level Fire HD 10, which was priced at a mere $155. Amazon has confirmed that while existing Fire tablets will continue to receive support, the production of new Fire units has ceased.
The new devices come with aluminum builds, high-resolution displays, and faster processors. The premium Alexa Tablet 12 Pro features a 12-inch, 120Hz display with a pixel density of 280 PPI, a 4nm 8-core chip with up to 16GB RAM, Dolby Atmos speakers, Wi-Fi 6E, and Amazon’s proprietary Nanomatte display technology. This technology, developed in partnership with Corning, helps to reduce screen glare. Each model comes with Amazon’s AI assistant, Alexa+, built-in. Pre-orders began immediately, with shipping starting on October 14, and availability in Europe from October 19.
