Nolla Health Introduces AI-Powered Acne Prescription Service in Utah

In a groundbreaking development for digital healthcare and aesthetic medicine, the New York-based startup Nolla Health has introduced the first AI-powered acne prescription service in the United States. Utah is the first state to adopt this innovative technology. The company’s Nolla Derm app is now providing initial topical acne prescriptions to Utah residents aged 18 and over at a cost of just $4.99 per month. The service eliminates the need for an office visit, waiting room time, and a doctor’s signature once the initial trial phase is over.

Users can access the service by verifying their identity, answering a medical questionnaire, and performing a quick five-angle face scan. The AI then assesses their condition and, if suitable, issues a prescription for topical acne treatment. The service is restricted to mild-to-moderate acne cases. Patients with severe or complex conditions are referred to a human dermatologist. The program operates under a 12-month regulatory agreement with Utah’s Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy and Division of Professional Licensing. However, the state emphasizes that this agreement does not constitute an endorsement of the technology.

Nolla Health asserts that the program aims to bridge the “access gap” in dermatological care by eliminating lengthy appointment wait times and high consultation costs. The AI service is not authorized to prescribe isotretinoin (Accutane) or oral medications. For the initial 100 patients, two physicians approve each prescription before the AI system operates with greater autonomy.
