Baha Mar Unveils Plans for Luxurious Resort Expansion in Nassau
The Bahamas’ premier resort destination, Baha Mar, has unveiled plans for an ambitious new luxury hotel development in Nassau, Cable Beach. The announcement came just a day before the significant ILTM North America 2026 luxury travel summit. Robert Sands, Senior Vice President of Government and External Affairs at Baha Mar, disclosed the expansion project to the press on September 22, 2026, following a groundbreaking ceremony earlier in the year.
The new development, taking place on the grounds of the former Melia Resort, is set to feature 345 hotel rooms and 77 luxury residences. This expansion will further solidify Baha Mar’s status as a leading hospitality brand in the Caribbean. The news arrives as The Bahamas experiences a record-breaking surge in tourism, with 6.1 million visitors in the first five months of 2026 alone. This represents a remarkable 14.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025, as reported by the Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation.
Baha Mar is also preparing to host the ILTM North America 2026 from September 28 to October 1. The event will bring together over 560 luxury travel exhibitors from destinations including Japan, and qualified buyers from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This latest expansion by Baha Mar underscores the confidence in Nassau’s continued tourism growth and its prominent position in the global luxury travel market.
