Commercial eVTOL Flights in South Korea: SkyDrive & Verty Eye 2028 Launch
Japanese compact aircraft developer SkyDrive Inc. and South Korean air mobility company Verty Co. Ltd. have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Their shared vision? To introduce commercial electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) flights to South Korea by 2028.
The cornerstone of this agreement is SkyDrive’s three-seater SD-05 (SKYDRIVE) aircraft. Both companies will collaboratively assess its feasibility, focusing on flight safety, infrastructure prerequisites, and potential flight paths. They envision operations such as picturesque sightseeing flights around Jeju Island and inter-city transit links throughout the Seoul Metropolitan Area, including Goyang City.
Seoul-based Verty is in the process of creating an all-encompassing operating system. This system will merge flight operations, air traffic management, and vertiport infrastructure. The company’s goal is to become South Korea’s premier eVTOL air operator with an Air Operator Certificate (AOC). Verty’s “AAM as a Service” model provides operational capacity to partners without the need for substantial initial infrastructure investment.
Meanwhile, SkyDrive, the only compact eVTOL developer in Japan actively seeking type certification, is already broadening its horizons to markets such as the U.S., UAE, India, and several Asia-Pacific countries. This collaboration signifies a considerable stride in Asia’s swiftly evolving Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) ecosystem.
