The cult Australian suncare brand, Ultra Violette, has become the first company in the United States to launch a sunscreen formulated with Bemotrizinol (BEMT) — the first new UV filter approved by the FDA in over 25 years. The FDA added Bemotrizinol to its OTC sunscreen monograph on June 9, 2026, at concentrations up to 6%, ending a decades-long regulatory drought for US formulators.

The product, Unblock Screen™ SPF 50 Breakout-Friendly SKINSCREEN™, is specifically designed for oily, acne-prone, and reactive skin. The formula pairs BEMT with zinc oxide, BASF’s sebum-controlling Bix’Activ, and dsm-firmenich’s Pentavitin for hydration that lasts up to 72 hours — all in a whipped, soft-matte texture with zero white cast.
