Boost Your Brain Health by 55% with a Structured Lifestyle Program
A groundbreaking study published recently provides hope for those concerned about cognitive decline. The research reveals that a comprehensive, multi-faceted lifestyle program enhances memory and cognitive abilities 55% more effectively than basic health advice alone. This is particularly beneficial for older adults at risk of dementia.
The study was conducted by the Latin American Initiative for Lifestyle Intervention to Prevent Cognitive Decline (LatAm-FINGERS). This Alzheimer’s Association–funded, two-year randomized controlled trial involved 1,065 participants from 11 countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru. The results were showcased at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2026 in London and concurrently published in The Lancet.
Participants who received structured coaching — a combination of supervised exercise, healthy eating guidance, cognitive training, and social engagement — exhibited significant improvements in global cognition, memory, processing speed, and executive function. The research underscores the importance of structure and social support in health and wellness communities. The researchers suggest that addressing multiple lifestyle risk factors at once could be highly effective, given that Alzheimer’s disease is influenced by various health aspects simultaneously. According to the authors of the study, the results indicate the potential of “practical, affordable, and adaptable lifestyle programs” in reducing the risk of dementia globally, including in lower-income countries.
