Anthropic Seals Monumental $35B Cloud Agreement Linked to Hut 8’s Texas Data Center
In a record-breaking AI infrastructure deal, Anthropic has entered into a $35 billion cloud-computing contract with Lambda, an AI cloud service backed by Nvidia. A significant part of this deal is tied to a colossal data center being developed by Hut 8 Corp. (NASDAQ: HUT) in Nueces County, Texas.
Reports from the Wall Street Journal and Reuters reveal that Nvidia will lease Hut 8’s Beacon Point facility, which offers approximately 350 megawatts of AI computing capacity. This setup creates an interconnected chain involving four major tech giants: Anthropic as the end user, Lambda as the cloud service, Nvidia as the hardware supplier and leaseholder, and Hut 8 as the infrastructure developer.
Following the announcement, Hut 8’s shares experienced a surge, leaping by as much as 4% in premarket trading. This deal further solidifies the former bitcoin mining company’s impressive transition into one of North America’s leading AI data center operators. This comes on the heels of a previous landmark 15-year, $9.8 billion lease signed in May at its Beacon Point campus — a contract that includes three five-year renewal options potentially worth up to $25.1 billion in total.
Industry experts have observed that bitcoin miners are increasingly shifting towards AI infrastructure due to their large power footprints and existing grid connections. This trend has been capitalized on by public miners with over $70 billion in AI and high-performance computing deals signed as of early 2026.
