FAA Approves Swift 100R Unleaded Avgas for Over 1,600 Aircraft Models

In a significant move towards the transition of general aviation from leaded fuel, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has broadened the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for Swift Fuels’ 100R unleaded aviation gasoline. The expansion includes more than 1,200 piston engine models and 1,600 airframe models in its Approved Model List (AML). The announcement, made in mid-July 2026, affects aircraft that collectively consume approximately 56% of all 100LL avgas sold in the United States.

The approval encompasses engines from over 80 manufacturers. This includes Lycoming (~395 models), Continental (~195 models), Curtiss Wright (~95 models), and Pratt & Whitney (~95 models). Currently, Swift’s 100R is the only commercially available 100-octane unleaded avgas approved under FAA STCs and compliant with ASTM International’s D8603 production specification.

This achievement marks Phase I of Swift’s multi-phase transition plan. Phase II and III approvals aim to target higher-performance engine combinations through 2027 and early 2028. The FAA’s initiative aligns with the U.S. government’s mandate to transition the general aviation fleet to unleaded fuel by the end of 2030.
