Epic Flight Academy: 529 Savings Plans Now Accepted for Pilot Training
Aspiring pilots and aviation mechanics across the United States received significant financial news this week. Epic Flight Academy, the country’s largest FAA Part 141 flight school, has announced its acceptance of 529 education savings plans for eligible flight and mechanic training programs.
The academy, based in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, confirmed that students enrolled in FAA Part 141 flight programs and FAA Part 147 aircraft mechanic programs can now use 529 funds. These funds can cover qualifying expenses such as:
- Tuition
- Flight and ground instruction
- Aircraft or simulator training
- Books and training materials
- Examination fees
- Required equipment and supplies
“Parents have frequently inquired about 529 plans, so we are pleased to now accept payment from these plans,” said Cindy Lovell, Epic’s Director of Education. “This provides another option for students seeking vocational and technical training in the aviation field.”
The decision follows the landmark One Big Beautiful Bill Act (Public Law 119-21, Section 70414), signed into law on July 4, 2025. This Act expanded 529 eligibility to cover FAA-certified flight training programs, with no college degree required. Epic Flight Academy operates multiple campuses and mechanic schools in Florida and Kentucky, training students from over 80 countries.
Epic officials have noted that 529 funds cannot be applied towards housing or personal living expenses. They encourage students to consult their CPA or 529 plan administrator for individual guidance.
