Austin’s skyline is set to welcome its most thrilling hospitality addition yet. 1 Hotels, the mission-driven luxury lifestyle brand established by Barry Sternlicht, has unveiled 1 Hotel Austin. This breathtaking 252-room property, including 60 suites, is tucked within the 74-story Waterline tower—the highest building in Texas and the entire Southern United States, towering approximately 1,025 feet above the city.

Situated at the convergence of Waller Creek and Lady Bird Lake in Downtown Austin’s Rainey Street District, the hotel’s design is the brainchild of Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF). The interiors, crafted by Studio MAI, draw inspiration from Hill Country ranches and traditional Texas river houses, all viewed through a modern, biophilic lens. The design features include planted balconies, natural stone surfaces, and floor-to-ceiling windows that seamlessly blend the indoors with nature.

Gourmands will be attracted to Alteño Austin, the hotel’s flagship restaurant. The menu, curated by James Beard-nominated Chef Johnny Curiel of Denver’s Michelin-starred Alma Fonda Fina, offers cuisine from the Highlands of Jalisco. The hotel also boasts a 16th-floor rooftop lounge named Watr, a Bamford Wellness Spa, a 2,000-square-foot fitness center, and a yoga studio. The property is also in the process of obtaining LEED Gold certification, reinforcing its reputation as one of the most sustainable luxury hotels in the American South.
