BETA Technologies Achieves Historic Milestone with First FAA eIPP Electric Flights
BETA Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BETA) has marked a significant milestone in American aviation history by executing the first operational electric aircraft flights under the U.S. Department of Transportation and FAA’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP). This program is a federal government initiative aimed at safely integrating Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) aircraft into everyday commercial use within the National Airspace System.
The groundbreaking flights took place on July 10, 2026, covering a distance of approximately 275 nautical miles. The journey connected four airports across Virginia and Maryland:
- Virginia Tech/Montgomery Executive Airport (KBCB)
- Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (KCHO)
- Frederick Municipal Airport (KFDK)
- Martin State Airport (KMTN)
The flights were conducted using the ALIA CX300 electric aircraft and transported manufactured organs developed by biotech partner United Therapeutics Corporation (Nasdaq: UTHR). This showcases a powerful life-saving application for electric aviation.
The mission was a collaborative effort between BETA, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the Virginia Department of Aviation, and the Maryland Aviation Administration. BETA has been selected to participate in seven of the FAA’s eight eIPP launch programs — more than any other electric aircraft developer. The program is the first in a series of use cases expected to span at least 26 states nationwide. The ALIA CX300 is targeting full FAA type certification in the second half of 2027.
