Amazon Shatters Records with a $200B Quarter as AWS Rides High on AI Wave

Amazon has outdone itself by delivering its most lucrative financial quarter ever, breaching the $200 billion revenue barrier for the first time in a single quarter. This monumental achievement was fueled by a remarkable upsurge in its cloud and artificial intelligence sectors.

The company announced Q2 2026 total net sales of $200.6 billion, a 20% increase year-over-year, comfortably surpassing analyst expectations of $196.47 billion.

The star of the show was undoubtedly Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS reported a revenue of $42.2 billion, marking a 37% year-over-year increase. This is the division’s fastest growth rate in 18 quarters. AWS operating income reached $16.6 billion at a 39.4% margin.

CEO Andy Jassy emphasized that Amazon’s AI and in-house chips businesses have each exceeded a $25 billion annualized revenue run rate, growing at triple-digit rates.

The earnings per share were a whopping $5.75, more than triple Wall Street’s consensus forecast of $1.82. Amazon’s advertising business also made a strong impression, increasing 26% year-over-year to $19.8 billion.

The company raised its full-year 2026 capital expenditure guidance to an astounding $220 billion, indicating continued massive investment in AI infrastructure. Amazon shares surged more than 10% in after-hours trading following the announcement.
