South America Ascends: Brazil & Colombia Emerge as Global Tourism Hotspots

South America is swiftly gaining recognition as one of the globe’s most exhilarating travel regions in 2026. Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Paraguay are leading the pack as the continent’s top destinations for international tourists. The region is becoming more accessible than ever, thanks to a wave of significant airline investments and the launch of new routes, resulting in a considerable increase in visitor arrivals.

LATAM Airlines is set to expand its fleet to 410 aircraft by the end of 2026, adding new Embraer E195 jets to serve previously underserved regional routes. In a parallel development, Copa Airlines has initiated the rollout of high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi across its fleet from July 2026, significantly enhancing the in-flight experience. Avianca and Aeromexico have ramped up flight frequencies to Bogotá and Medellín, while Air Canada is set to introduce wide-body Dreamliners to Bogotá later this year.

Brazil is witnessing a nearly 15% year-over-year growth in international capacity from LATAM Airlines, with expanded routes including Buenos Aires–Rio de Janeiro and Fortaleza–Miami. Colombia continues to enchant visitors with the rainbow-hued streets of Guatapé and the historic allure of Cartagena. Industry insiders point out that sustainable and cultural travel experiences are the primary factors propelling South America’s explosive appeal to global travellers in 2026.
