Anthropic Takes Claude Cowork Mobile: The AI That Never Sleeps

AI safety company Anthropic has taken a significant leap with its agentic AI product, Claude Cowork. For the first time, it’s now available on web browsers, iOS, and Android, evolving from a desktop-only tool into a relentless, cross-device AI workforce platform.

Announced on July 7, 2026, the rollout initially targeted Max plan subscribers in beta, with plans for broader access in the coming weeks. The game-changing upgrade? Cloud-based background processing. This feature allows users to delegate complex multi-step tasks, from compiling financial reports to drafting client briefings. These tasks continue to run autonomously on Anthropic’s servers, even when all of the user’s devices are offline. Users can schedule tasks in advance, and Claude will send mobile alerts when human approval is required.

Anthropic released usage data from 1.2 million anonymized Cowork sessions across over 600,000 organizations to highlight the launch. The data revealed that software development accounted for a mere 8.7% of usage. In contrast, business process operations, such as reconciling spreadsheets, building onboarding checklists, and compiling reports, made up the largest category at 33.4%. Content creation and copywriting followed at 16.4%.

With this launch, Anthropic directly challenges OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work, which debuted the same week. Both companies are vying to integrate AI agents into the daily workflows of knowledge workers, far beyond the developer community. To celebrate the launch, Anthropic is doubling Cowork usage limits until August 5, 2026.
