Anthropic Outshines OpenAI: Skyrockets to a $965B Valuation with a $47B Revenue Run Rate

In a groundbreaking shift in the tech industry, Anthropic—the AI safety firm powering the Claude AI models—has eclipsed its competitor OpenAI, securing its position as the world’s most valuable AI startup. This follows a monumental $65 billion Series H funding round, catapulting Anthropic’s valuation to an astounding $965 billion, outpacing OpenAI’s recent valuation of $730–$852 billion.

The company’s annualized revenue run rate has now surpassed an impressive $47 billion—a significant leap from a mere $9 billion at the end of 2025. This signifies one of the most rapid revenue escalations in the history of enterprise software. The $65 billion round was spearheaded by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, and incorporates $15 billion in previously pledged hyperscaler investments, including a $5 billion contribution from Amazon, with Micron Technology also participating.

Anthropic’s astronomical ascent is primarily fueled by enterprise adoption, with business clients now contributing to approximately 80% of total sales. Over 300,000 firms are currently utilizing Claude tools, and Anthropic’s latest product, Claude Code, has already generated nearly $1 billion in annualized revenue since its inception earlier this year. The company’s unwavering focus on enterprise customers and API usage starkly contrasts with OpenAI’s consumer-centric ChatGPT strategy.

The fresh capital will be utilized to augment compute capacity, further AI safety and interpretability research, and globally scale Claude products and enterprise partnerships. This sets the stage for an intense AI competition in the remainder of 2026.
