Qantas Introduces Fixed-Price Cash Upgrade for Guaranteed Premium Seats
Frequent flyers who have been grappling with Qantas’s unpredictable upgrade system can now breathe a sigh of relief. The Australian carrier has introduced a new product, Confirmed Upgrades, in June 2026. This fixed-price cash upgrade system eliminates the uncertainty of securing a premium cabin seat.
Unlike the airline’s existing Classic Upgrade Rewards (which uses Qantas Points) or the auction-style Bid Now Upgrades, the Confirmed Upgrades option provides a more straightforward approach. Eligible passengers can purchase a set-price upgrade to Premium Economy, Business, or even First Class. The best part? They receive confirmation within just 12 hours of payment.
This offer is invite-only and available on selected flights, making it the third upgrade pathway now offered by the airline. As Qantas puts it, “Confirmed Upgrades allow eligible customers to purchase an upgrade offer and receive confirmation within 12 hours of payment.” This gives travelers the peace of mind of knowing they’ll be flying in a premium cabin.
However, travel experts caution that while the certainty is appealing, this new option is likely to be one of the most expensive ways to upgrade a Qantas flight. It’s also worth noting that passengers on international Economy Sale fares are not eligible for the offer.
This initiative signals a new revenue stream for Qantas. It’s part of a broader trend among airlines worldwide to monetize premium cabin access beyond traditional loyalty programmes.
