Sephora Pioneers Prestige Beauty Retail on Google’s AI Checkout

Beauty retail titan, Sephora, has boldly stepped into the future of shopping. It has become the first prestige beauty retailer to facilitate purchases directly within Google’s AI-powered platform via Google Agentic Checkout. This extended partnership, unveiled in early June 2026, empowers shoppers to explore products, pose detailed beauty queries, create personalized routines, and finalize purchases — all within the confines of Google’s ecosystem.

This initiative is a part of Sephora’s wider AI strategy, which also encompasses a ChatGPT app launched in March 2026 and an AI-powered Beauty Chat tool on its website. The LVMH-owned retailer, boasting over 80 million active Beauty Insider loyalty members globally, anticipates future phases of the Google collaboration to incorporate loyalty program benefits and account-linked personalization directly into the experience.

“Beauty clients worldwide are increasingly receptive to AI-powered guidance, as many utilize technology to discover brands, trends, and routines,” stated Nadine Graham, Sephora North America General Manager of e-Commerce. The company underscores that AI is intended to support — not supplant — human beauty advisors, with technology serving as an enhancement layer across both digital and physical store experiences.

Industry analysts observe that beauty is distinctly compatible with conversational AI due to its dependence on personalization and consultation. This makes Sephora’s move a harbinger of the direction the entire category is taking in terms of consumer discovery and purchasing behavior.
