Tragic Cessna 152 Training Flight Crash in Italy Results in Fatalities
A routine training flight ended in tragedy in Valbrembo, Italy, as a Cessna 152 crashed in a residential area, claiming the life of the instructor and critically injuring a student pilot.
On June 1, 2026, at approximately 4:00 PM local time, a Cessna 152 training aircraft met with a fatal accident in Valbrembo, near Bergamo in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. The aircraft collided with power lines during its approach to Valbrembo Airport and crashed among houses on via Don Bosco, near piazza Guglielmo Marconi.
The victim was identified as Daniel Taino, a 26-year-old flight instructor from Pianengo in the province of Cremona. The student pilot, a 19-year-old of North African origin, was extracted from the wreckage in critical condition and transported to Papa Giovanni Hospital in Bergamo.
The aircraft had departed at 3:06 PM and was conducting a touch-and-go training maneuver—a standard instructional exercise involving landing and immediately taking off without stopping—when the accident occurred.
According to preliminary investigations, the 1981-model Cessna 152 experienced control difficulties during the final phase of flight at very low altitude. The Italian aviation safety authorities (ANSV) have launched a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Despite the aircraft crashing in a residential area, no residents on the ground were injured, which can be considered a fortunate outcome amidst the tragedy.
