Shark 600 Earns Groundbreaking Turbulence-Canceling Certification
The Shark 600 aircraft has been awarded a revolutionary turbulence-canceling certification by Austrian aviation authorities. This marks a world-first achievement in active flight stabilization technology. The Turbulence Cancelling System (TCS), a product of seven years of development by Turbulence Solutions, can reduce the impact of turbulence by up to 80%, according to the manufacturer.
The groundbreaking system employs innovative flight-control technology to actively stabilize the aircraft during turbulent air encounters. Despite the Shark 600 already boasting a high wing loading of 12.94 pounds per square foot, the integration of the TCS provides stability equivalent to an aircraft five times heavier. This results in an effective wing loading of 61.45 pounds per square foot. The technology utilizes fast-moving control surfaces akin to twin rudders, adjusting between three and five times per second. These operate on principles similar to noise-canceling headphones.
Turbulence Solutions, founded by András Gálffy, initially targeted the ultralight market as these aircraft only require national-level certification, thus lowering barriers to entry. The system is now available as an option for all new Shark aircraft, including the turbocharged Shark 600 T. Company officials believe the technology will be particularly beneficial for pilots operating in mountainous regions where turbulence is a common issue.
