Amazon Pledges $25B to Anthropic in Groundbreaking AI Collaboration

In an unprecedented move in the realm of artificial intelligence, Amazon declared on April 20, 2026, its plans to invest a staggering $25 billion in AI startup Anthropic. This strategic alliance places both entities at the cutting edge of the generative AI competition.

The agreement encompasses an immediate investment of $5 billion, with a potential addition of $20 billion contingent on commercial milestones. This escalates Amazon’s total prospective investment in Anthropic to $33 billion, subsequent to an earlier pledge of $8 billion. In reciprocation, Anthropic has vowed to expend over $100 billion on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the ensuing decade.

This collaboration entitles Anthropic to utilize up to 5 gigawatts of Amazon’s bespoke Trainium AI chips to fuel its Claude family of AI models. Presently, over 100,000 customers operate Anthropic’s Claude models on AWS, rendering it one of the most sought-after AI model families on Amazon Bedrock.

“Claude is becoming increasingly indispensable to our users’ workflow, and we must develop the infrastructure to keep up with the swiftly escalating demand,” stated Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. Anthropic’s annual revenue has skyrocketed to over $30 billion, tripling in approximately one year.

The corporations are jointly working on Project Rainier, one of the world’s largest AI compute clusters, boasting around 500,000 Trainium2 chips. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy expressed that Anthropic’s ten-year commitment signifies the advancements made in custom silicon development.
