magniX Introduces Innovative Electric Engine for General Aviation Sector

Electric aviation pioneer, magniX, has unveiled the magniAIR, a revolutionary electric engine tailored for general aviation, recreational flying, and flight training applications. This significant announcement was made at the SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo in Lakeland, Florida on April 15, 2026.

The air-cooled magniAIR boasts an impressive power-to-weight ratio, generating 175 kilowatts (235 horsepower) while weighing a mere 55 kilograms (121 pounds). The company is currently integrating the engine as part of a complete powertrain into a Van’s Aircraft RV-10 kit plane. The inaugural flight is scheduled for later in 2026, with commercial availability projected for 2027.

“We are very excited to bring the marvel of electric flight to a new segment of the market,” said Reed Macdonald, CEO of magniX. “magniAIR electric engines, coupled with our industry-leading Samson batteries, can be used for any application currently powered by a 120-175 kW piston engine.”

The engine is strategically positioned to take advantage of the FAA’s new MOSAIC (Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification) rules, which expand the definition of light sport aircraft. magniX aims to tackle the escalating flight training costs by offering lower operating expenses through reduced fuel consumption and maintenance requirements. This could potentially help to mitigate the ongoing pilot shortage.
