Anticipated Luxury Hotel, White Elephant Aspen, Postpones Grand Opening Amidst Booming Market

White Elephant Aspen, a highly anticipated addition to the Rocky Mountains’ luxury hotel scene, has postponed its grand opening for the second time. The launch date, initially set for February 2026, has been pushed back indefinitely. This 54-room boutique property, nestled at the intersection of Main Street and Garmisch Street in Aspen’s West End neighborhood, was initially slated to open its doors in late fall 2025.

On January 23, 2026, Managing Director Justin Todd confirmed that the hotel would not be opening in February as previously planned. He stated, “The team has made the decision to take additional time to ensure that every detail of the White Elephant Aspen experience is fully ready and lives up to the brand’s standards before welcoming guests.” The hotel is currently awaiting custom-made pieces essential for creating distinctive experiences throughout the property.

This delay comes amidst a surge in demand within the luxury hotel sector in ski destinations. White Elephant Resorts, renowned for their iconic properties in Nantucket and Palm Beach, has made significant investments in the Aspen location. This includes the purchase of employee housing on four acres in nearby Woody Creek to address the region’s housing crisis. The property will showcase a contemporary Alpine-chic design by Boston-based firm EMBARC, a signature restaurant named LoLa 41°, a speakeasy lounge, heated ski lockers, and partnerships with Anderson Ranch Arts Centre.

As of late January, the hotel’s online booking platform shows no availability until June 2026, hinting at a potential summer opening. The property plans to offer exclusive winter experiences such as private snowcat backcountry tours and pre-opening ski runs on Aspen Mountain. Complimentary BMW airport transfers and courtesy vehicles for guests will also be provided.
