Electric Aviation Innovation Takes Flight: The Pulitzer Electric Aircraft Race
The Pulitzer Electric Aircraft Race, a showcase of the latest in electric aviation technology, is set to take off from October 10-15 at the Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport in Ohio. The event will feature pioneering electric aircraft, including the BETA Technologies’ Alia eCTOL and two Pipistrel Velis Electro aircraft.
This event aims to build public awareness and confidence in sustainable aviation. It represents a modern revival of the historic 1925 Pulitzer Trophy Race. Tyler Prather, a pilot for BETA Technologies, will compete in the company’s production Alia eCTOL. This aircraft recently made history by completing the first passenger-carrying electric aircraft flight in NYC.
The Pipistrel Velis Electro, the world’s first type-certified electric aircraft, continues to make headlines. Recent test flights by TV presenters James May and Richard Hammond saw the aircraft in a unique race against a Porsche Taycan electric vehicle across the UK.
The event will also feature educational components to engage and inspire future aviators. These include:
- STEM activities
- Drone demonstrations
- Flight simulators from Joby Aviation and Sinclair Community College
The Advanced Air Mobility Institute will host a dedicated education day. This will connect students with aviation professionals and provide insights into engineering careers.
