Amex Cards Now Supported by Samsung Wallet

On February 3, 2026, Samsung made a significant announcement: Samsung Wallet now supports American Express (Amex) cards in South Korea, effective from February 4. This update enables Galaxy smartphone and smartwatch users to make international contactless payments using Amex cards at NFC-enabled merchants worldwide.

Initially, the feature will only support Amex cards issued by Samsung Card. However, there are plans to expand this service to include additional card issuers in the future. With the addition of Amex, Samsung Wallet now supports all three major global payment networks: Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. This positions the service as a comprehensive digital wallet solution for international travelers and premium cardholders.

Chae Won-chul, Executive Vice President and Head of the Digital Wallet Team at Samsung Electronics, stated that the company aims to “strengthen Samsung Wallet’s global usability and provide differentiated services to premium card users.”

This move is seen as Samsung’s strategic response to Apple Pay’s expansion in markets where Samsung has traditionally held a strong position.

American Express is particularly popular among high-income earners and business travelers across the United States, Europe, and Asia. It offers premium benefits through partnerships with airlines, hotels, and restaurants.
