Google Chrome Introduces Gemini AI ‘Auto Browse’ for Seamless Web Tasks
Google has recently launched a series of AI-powered enhancements to Chrome, including an innovative browsing feature known as ‘auto browse’. This feature is designed to carry out intricate multi-step tasks on behalf of the users.
Developed on Gemini 3, Google’s most sophisticated AI model, the new Chrome features comprise a persistent side panel for the Gemini chatbot. This allows users to engage with AI without having to leave their current tab. The highlight of these features, auto browse, empowers the AI to manage tasks such as vacation planning, online shopping, and form filling autonomously. For instance, users can instruct Gemini to search for party decorations based on a photo, add items to their cart while adhering to a budget, and even apply discount codes.
The auto browse function is currently being rolled out to Gemini AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States. Google has put in place security measures to prevent the AI from executing sensitive actions like purchases or social media posts without user consent. The update also introduces Nano Banana image generation directly into the browser and deeper integrations with Google apps such as Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Maps, and Google Flights.
Parisa Tabriz, Chrome Vice President, stressed that the redesign enables users to multitask more efficiently while maintaining control over AI actions. These features signify Google’s assertive strategy to compete with AI-powered browsers from OpenAI, Microsoft Edge, and Opera in the rapidly evolving browser market.
