Spotify Introduces AI-Driven ‘Prompted Playlists’ in the US and Canada

On January 22, 2026, Spotify officially launched its AI-powered “Prompted Playlist” feature for Premium subscribers in the United States and Canada. This innovative tool empowers users to create highly personalized playlists using natural language descriptions to articulate their desired listening experience.

Unlike the simpler AI Playlist feature introduced in 2024, Prompted Playlists allows users to provide detailed, conversational prompts. For instance, users can request, “Find me one artist I haven’t listened to yet, but would probably love, or an artist I’ve only heard one or two songs from, and introduce me to them.” The AI then scrutinizes a user’s entire Spotify listening history, along with real-time global music trends, charts, and cultural data, to generate tailored recommendations.

“For most people, curating music isn’t a part of their job. You don’t always have the time or the energy to keep building the perfect playlist every time your mood changes, and that’s where prompted playlists will come in,” stated J.J. Italiano, Head of Global Music Curation and Discovery at Spotify. The feature, initially tested in New Zealand in December 2025, is currently available only in English and will roll out through the end of January. Spotify Premium pricing will increase to $12.99 per month starting February 2026.
